CIWEM's Conservation and Recreation Panel (CRP) is one of the seven Technical Panels that have been formed to ensure that the Institution is able to fulfil all aspects of its Royal Charter. Panels are the technical backbone of the Institution.

The Panel's terms of reference give it a wide remit within the following areas:

  • Policy instruments, including incentives (charges, levies, taxes, payments), regulatory approachess, and voluntary codes of practice and agreements
  • Techniques and Standards, including Environmental Impact Assessment, Strategic Environmental Assessment and Sustainability Appraisal.
  • Environmental education (of CIWEM members and the wider public)

The Panel is charged with a number of outputs including events, consultation responses, policy statements, technical advice, representation and publications. The Panel currently meets three times a year at CIWEM's London office, and members are in frequent contact via email.
